Terms of Use
Last updated
These terms govern your use of FLYPEDIA. They are intended to be clear and proportionate rather than exhaustive: a reference website does not need twenty pages of disclaimers, and a disclaimer that tries to exclude everything tends to be worth very little.
What FLYPEDIA is
FLYPEDIA is an aviation encyclopedia published as an educational and reference resource. It is provided free of charge, for general information.
It is not operational documentation. Nothing on this site may be relied upon for the operation, maintenance, repair, airworthiness determination, loading, navigation or flight planning of any aircraft. For those purposes, use the current approved documentation issued by the manufacturer and the responsible aviation authority. Information here may be simplified, historical, superseded or specific to a variant other than the one you have in mind.
Nothing here is legal, financial, commercial or professional advice.
Acceptable use
You may read, search, link to, quote with attribution, and use FLYPEDIA for any lawful purpose, including study, teaching, research and private reference.
You must not:
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its hosting, its database or any connected system
- attempt to compromise, probe for vulnerabilities in, or interfere with the integrity or security of the site
- introduce malicious code, or submit malicious content through any interface the site provides
- place an automated load on the site that degrades it for others, or circumvent technical measures that limit such load
- misrepresent FLYPEDIA's content, including by presenting altered material as though it were published here
- use the site in a way that breaks applicable law or infringes anyone's rights
Reasonable, considerate automated access for research or archival purposes is not the target of this clause. Access that harms the service for other readers is.
Intellectual property: FLYPEDIA's own material
The original material created for FLYPEDIA, article text, translations, editorial structure, interface design, layout, original graphics and branding, may be protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights.
You may quote reasonable extracts with attribution to FLYPEDIA and, where practical, a link to the page. Wholesale reproduction of entries, or systematic extraction of substantial parts of the site, requires permission: randgard45@gmail.com
The licence applying to the project's source code is governed by the licence file published with that code and is not altered by these terms.
Intellectual property: third-party material
FLYPEDIA includes material that it does not own. Photographs, illustrations, archive documents, logos, aircraft and company names, model designations and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance on FLYPEDIA is for identification, description and reference, and does not imply ownership, endorsement, affiliation or sponsorship.
FLYPEDIA makes no claim of ownership over any material merely because it appears on this site. Photographs are published under the licence each one carries, and those licences, not these terms, govern what you may do with them. Before reusing an image from this site, check its individual credit and licence. See Copyright & Image Licensing.
Where a trademark is used, it is used descriptively to identify the subject under discussion.
Accuracy and limits
FLYPEDIA aims for accuracy and corrects errors as they are found, but does not warrant that the content is complete, current or free from error. Historical and technical sources frequently conflict, figures are revised as new material emerges, and dated information reflects the date it carried rather than the present day.
The site is provided on an "as is" basis. To the extent permitted by applicable law, no warranties are given as to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, FLYPEDIA is not liable for loss arising from reliance on its content, and your use of the information here is at your own discretion and risk. If you are making a decision with real consequences, verify the point against the cited source or an authoritative current document.
External links
FLYPEDIA links to external websites as references and further reading. Those sites are not under its control. FLYPEDIA is not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement.
Links decay. A reference that worked when it was cited may later move, change or disappear. Reporting a broken link is genuinely useful, see the Corrections Policy.
Availability and changes to the site
FLYPEDIA may be updated, extended, restructured, interrupted or withdrawn at any time, in whole or in part. Entries may be revised or removed. No guarantee of continuous availability is given, and maintenance, technical failure or hosting changes may make the site temporarily unavailable.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the project develops. The date at the top of this page records the most recent revision, and continuing to use the site after a change indicates acceptance of the revised terms.
