Changelog

What has changed on FLYPEDIA, newest first. Entries are grouped by what they did: added, changed, removed or fixed.

Five of the shortest entries rewritten in full, and the first pass of work that follows a site actually going live.

Added

  • Singapore Airlines, KLM, Frankfurt Airport, Breaking the Sound Barrier and Douglas rewritten from stubs into full articles, in English and French, each sourced from the operator, the national archive or the official investigation rather than from a single encyclopedia link.
  • Seven photographs on the Douglas entry, including the Santa Monica handover of three Hawaiian Airlines DC-3s and a 1938 assembly line, each credited and licensed from its own record.
  • This changelog, and a way to reach it from Settings.
  • A contact route in Settings, so a correction or a copyright concern does not require hunting through the footer.

Changed

  • Every page now carries its own description and its own address for search engines and link previews.
  • The homepage now declares what the site is in machine-readable form, including its search box.
  • Section names in the navigation bar now sit at equal distance from their dividers in both languages.
  • The Legal Notice and the Privacy Policy now name the hosting provider and give a contact address.

Removed

  • The Northern lights weather effect, and the starfield that depended on it.

Fixed

  • Opening a photograph is now instant. The full-size image is fetched before the click rather than after it.
  • Cards in the demo now leave the frame by leaving it, instead of fading out while still on screen.

FLYPEDIA went public.

Added

  • 67 entries across aircraft, airports, airlines, engines, manufacturers and the history of flight, each in English and French, with 1,212 credited photographs.
  • The editorial and legal pages: Editorial Principles, Sources & Verification, Corrections, Privacy, Terms, Legal Notice, Contact, Copyright, and a photography credits page generated from the image records themselves.
  • Measurements that follow the reader's chosen units, written once by the author and converted on the page.

How the numbers work

Each release is numbered MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH. The first number changes only if FLYPEDIA becomes a fundamentally different thing. The second counts releases that add entries or features. The third counts releases that only correct mistakes. So 1.1.0 added things to 1.0.0, and a hypothetical 1.1.1 would have fixed something in 1.1.0 without adding anything.
